StoreCodes streamline location management for multi-location brands, offering flexibility and efficiency.
The StoreCode variable presented in the Google Business Profile (GBP) dashboard is an optional data element. It allows businesses to add a reference number or ID to match their internal business structures. There is no specific functionality or SEO value within GBP.
In the LocalClarity application, StoreCodes are used as the core location identification name/number, and is absolutely required to take full advantage of the platform.
Structure
StoreCodes can be virtually any alpha-numeric structure as long as it is unique for every location. Some businesses make them full description (e.g., ACME-123 Main Street), while others use structures to match other systems (e.g., AC123456CD), while others still use a combined approach (e.g., AC01-Main).
Primary Role, Custom Groups
First and foremost, StoreCodes are used to create custom groups for access control, reporting, and research. Profiles can be customized to match client's unique business structures for district, regions, or departments, and StoreCodes are used to make these assignments.
Individually Assigning StoreCodes
Assigning StoreCodes to a single location or just a few locations can be completed entirely within the application. Selecting the listing details in the Manage Locations section will provide a series of widgets next to the location name. Select 'Single Location Edit', which is identified by a pencil icon.
Select the smaller pencil icon to the right of StoreCode. A pop-up will appear, allowing us to edit the existing, or assign a new StoreCode to this listing. Once that's been applied, the StoreCode will update within the system and within Google almost immediately.
Assigning StoreCodes in Bulk
Assigning StoreCodes in Bulk is useful when dealing with hundreds or thousands of locations.
One way to do this is through a bulk upload. Once in the Manage Locations section, head Bulk Actions, then click on Upload Location Aliases. You can download a sample version to make sure your formatting is correct. Fill out the applicable cells, save it as a .CSV, and then upload the file into the platform in the same section.
If successful, the locations should update within 10-15 minutes. Don't see an update? Check the upload status in GBP Detail History within Bulk Actions.
Another bulk method involves the Manage Locations in Bulk module. Select Details and a spreadsheet will build in a few minutes showing all of your Google Listing Details. From here you can enter in Store Codes for each location and then select update to push the changes through to Google.
Conclusion
Once your listings have Store Codes assigned, you will be able to better differentiate between your listings, and organize them as well. This will only increase productivity and efficiency within the platform now that each listing has an assigned reference number to match their internal business structures. You can use these store codes to create custom groups and better leverage LocalClarity automated workflows.
