As Microsoft Updated Bing, There Was Momentary Excitement That It Might Compete with Google Search
As Bing introduced its rendition of a conversational, generative AI search tool, there was the possibility of competition with Google. While Bing disputes the numbers, it hasn't worked out that way. Google remains a dominant force in search, although Microsoft argues that third-party data companies aren't measuring all the users who go directly to Bing's chat page.
Some estimates even show that Microsoft lost search engine market shares in comparison to the previous year. Microsoft disputes these findings by highlighting the one billion AI chats generated and the number of positive press reactions from its initial launch. There is still potential for Microsoft to erode Google's dominance, but that is yet to transpire.
